Legislative
Program/Government Relations
The
League represents the "Voice of Postmasters" in efforts to
protect and enhance the pay, benefits and working conditions of
Postmasters. A registered lobbyist provides a direct line of
communication with Congress on issues of concern to Postmasters, to
retirees, and to the U. S. Postal Service. The League has played a
significant role in the development of legislative proposals dealing
with health and retirements benefits, Social Security, Hatch Act
Reform, postal reform and provisions to allow retirees to return to
work on an emergency basis. With the help of the League's National
Legislative Committee, State Legislative Chairmen and grassroots
Congressional District Representatives, Postmasters have gained
overwhelming support for legislation to ensure fair and equitable
participation in the development and implementation of pay and
benefit policies.
The
League Political Action Committee, League PAC, was established in
1982 to enhance the League's participation in the political process.
Funds are raised and contributed on a non-partisan basis to
congressional candidates who support and/or influence the League's
legislative agenda.
